The Mining Model

The Mining Model is built upon the extraction of large volumes of natural resources as quickly and cheaply as possible. It is supported by laws and policies that favour transnational corporations, often at the expense of workers and of people and communities whose lands are targeted for mining. A popular tactic for enforcement of this model is the criminalization of dissent. Governments and mining companies conspire to systematically marginalize legitimate opposition to resource extraction.
